My graduate school classmate and I decided we should do a weekend getaway to NOLA! Couples trip to Louisiana. We took a short 2 hour flight to New Orleans from Ft Lauderdale and had the whole day ahead of us! Thankfully, the Airbnb owner let us check in early so we left our bags and hit the streets.
Bourbon Street
My classmate’s boyfriend went to school in NOLA so we met up with a few of his friends during lunch. We ate at the Roosevelt Hotel (so good!) and then walked around the hotel since they set it up with Christmas decor, lights and Christmas trees everywhere! Next stop… Bourbon Street. We tried the famous Hurricane and Grenades while strolling around the street and the neighboring areas. After a few hours of being out and about, we headed back to the Airbnb to relax and play some card games, plus we grabbed some yummy Cane’s Chicken (a must in NOLA) and called it a night.
Christmas Parade on Canal Street
The next morning we awoke to get some breakfast at Camila’s Grill, a hidden local diner spot that had some great meals. We took the street car after brunch to catch a Christmas Parade on Canal Street. I was so happy to be able to see a NOLA style parade, beads and all! We walked over to Riverwalk where we shopped at Mardi Gras World and ate some delicious beignets at Cafe Du Monde.
That night, we went to Celebration of the Oaks (a Christmas themed fair with rides and fair food to enjoy) to check out the park and roast some marshmallows! We also grabbed some Poboys, which is a must in New Orleans. I enjoyed being able to immerse myself in the local spots, not just the touristy locations. Plus, we hung out at a local bar called Bulldogs where all the college kids go to grab a drink.
On the last day of the trip, the Airbnb owner was so sweet! He let us leave our luggage at the house while we explored and took advantage of the last few hours we had- our flight was at 9pm. We took the street car toward downtown to see the WWII Museum and walked around Magazine Street. We ended up at a rooftop bar to take a quick break.
Buckner Mansion
We were picked up by one of my classmate’s friends where we drove down to the lake to have some dinner by the water, it was beautiful! Best blue lobster dip EVER! I had some yummy pasta and tried Gumbo too. We took another short drive over to a local park called The Fly, perfect spot for picnics or evenings outside. Our last stop of the day, more beignets! Oh, forgot to add, we checked out the Buckner Mansion aka AHS Coven House. After a long day out and about, we headed over to the airport for our flight back home. Thank you, NOLA!
