I traveled to Spain this November 2019 for about a week-long trip to Madrid and Barcelona. Here’s my Spain itinerary blog post so you can plan your next getaway! While looking on TripAdvisor for things to do in these cities, we found this incredible excursion: The Original Three Countries in One Day: France, Andorra, Spain from Barcelona. We decided to purchase tickets and take the trip.
After a few days in Madrid, we took a train over to Barcelona to explore the city. The next day, we were up bright and early for our three countries in one day excursion. We met the tour guide over in Barcelona’s musical theater, Palau de la Música. We then grabbed a quick breakfast before boarding our bus. Our tour guide was bright a bubbly and he explained to us that this was mainly a scenic bus tour, since a lot of driving is involved. Nonetheless, everyone was excited to check out the views.
Bagà, Spain
We headed out of the city to begin our 12 hour journey throughout the Catalunya area. First stop, Bagà, Spain. This quaint medieval town is beautiful! You’ll be able to check out the views of the rocky peaks in Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. We learned a bit about Bagà’s history and grabbed a quick breakfast. I had a delicious Nutella croissant from the local bakery before heading back on the road.
Ax-Les-Thermes, France
We were able to enjoy the views of the Pyrenees Mountains as we inched closer and closer to the country side of France. The next location on our travel list was the ancient spa town of Ax-Les-Thermes, France. This small town is home to thermal fountains where we dipped our feet into the warm natural waters. They had a local market up and running that day so we were able to immerse ourselves fully in their culture and way of life. Don’t forget to say “Bonjour” to greet the neighbors!
The town also has a Red Wood Tree we were able to see. We just immersed ourselves in nature and enjoyed the views of the Pyrenees Mountains. We ate a chicken panini and local cheese before heading back on the road once again toward our final destination.. the small country of Andorra!
The scenic route was mesmerizing and our tour guide Miguel was a delight! He was so comical and educated. He’s very knowledgeable about the various locations and spoke several languages. It was very impressive.
Andorra la Vella, Andorra
Along the way, before crossing the town of Pas de la Casa in Andorra, we had a wonderful photo op opportunity high in the mountains and had our passports stamped. We finally arrived to the top of the Pyrenees Mountains and took in the views before descending toward the capital of Andorra, Andorra la Vella, where they house a huge shopping mall. Andorra la Vella is the highest capital city in Europe, at an elevation of 3,356 feet. They encourage tourists to visit and shop there. We were able to get off the bus in this city and explore the shopping mall and surrounding area before we had to re-board and head back to beautiful Barcelona.
