When I was younger, I wouldn’t do anything to my hair other than trim the ends. I was always afraid of changing my look in fear of it not looking right. I finally built up the courage and went ahead and changed my look a few years ago by doing my very first balayage! Since then, I’ve done minor changes here and there, but this summer I decided to cut my hair above my shoulders.
I’ve always had longer hair, typically mid-back. This time around, it was mid-neck. I wanted a new sophisticated, trendy look! Why not just go for it?
My thoughts on my longer hair vs my shorter hair
Long Hair: I’ve had mid-back hair length the majority of my life. I would cut it down here and there, but it would never go anywhere above my shoulders. For me, ease of style is number one priority. I don’t like using heat on my hair very often unless there’s a special occasion.
Pros: Looks that can look instantly put together and sleek is what I’m looking for. What I’ve found is when in doubt, put your hair up in a bun or braid if you’re having a bad hair day.
Cons: Longer hair does take more time to style. If you’re planning on styling your hair by blow-drying it, curling it or using a flat iron, longer hair definitely takes a a longer period of time to work with.
Short Hair: This is the first time I’ve had shorter hair and I loved the initial look! I was nervous for the haircut, but I went for it. I was ready for the change. I’ve always wanted to change up my look and see what hairstyle suits my face shape best.
Pros: My hair feels so airy now. It’s easier to wash my hair and it’s quicker when styling, since it’s less hair to work with.
Cons: I’ve come to realize that my shorter hair needs to be styled more often. It’s no longer a quick bun or braids like I was used to.
I’ll continue changing up my hair from year to year, but here’s some of my feedback if you’re thinking about cutting your hair for a new look! Let me know what you prefer and your tips and tricks for styling longer or shorter hair
