This trip was pretty unexpected, but I am so glad I was able to experience a few days in San Diego, California! My boyfriend was invited to an all inclusive business trip BUT it was taking place during our anniversary weekend in November 2018, thankfully he was able to add me to the itinerary and I was able to take a few days off from work for this adventure.
Coronado Island
The itinerary was fully prepared by the company’s coordinator which was great! We stayed at the Double Tree Hotel near the San Diego Airport (Interesting Fact: the San Diego airport is a single runway airport. Aircraft take off or touch down every two to three minutes). On the first official day in San Diego, my boyfriend Mat had to head to a work related event while I stayed behind to get some work done and explore the hotel/near by surroundings.
By 3pm, everyone was back at the hotel where our Tour Bus picked us up for an evening tour of San Diego’s famous locations. We explored Coronado Island, followed by a delicious dinner in Little Italy and some drinks at a near by bar.
San Diego Safari Park
The next morning we woke up early to head to the San Diego Safari Park where we had a zip-lining excursion in store! I was so EXCITED!! The Flightline experience takes you 130 feet above the ground, with a bird’s-eye view of the wildlife below you. Such a rush! We then all met up within the park for lunch.
After lunch, we explored the park on our own and learned about the wildlife. Our private bus picked us up at 5pm where we rushed to the Hotel to quickly change and spruce up for our 7pm dinner in the Gaslamp area. It’s filled with great food spots and local bars to check out.
La Jolla
That Saturday morning, we had some breakfast (complimentary breakfast everyday! Yum!) and we had to pack up and check out before noon since our red eye flight was leaving that same night. While the rest of the group went straight to the USS Midway Museum (we checked that out as well, it’s so neat! A must see in San Diego), we headed over to La Jolla to take in the views. We were able to explore the area and take pictures of sleepy seals and sea lions!
After a quick Mexican style lunch, we explored the Little Italy area before making our way back to the hotel to pick up our luggage. So glad I was able to experience Cali for the first time! So much more to see.
