Another Fall season was coming around and we were exploring travel options. My anniversary is in November, so what better time to go somewhere new! My boyfriend and I decided to take a solo anniversary trip to Virginia and Washington DC for a four day getaway. I’ve been to DC with my family in the past, but this Fall 2017 trip was filled with new adventures.
Arlington, Virginia
We arrived at our beautiful Oakwood Crystal City apartment in Arlington, Virginia and the apartment we rented through HomeAway felt like home; so cozy and inviting. We decided to take to the streets and walk around the area, which included a huge Shopping plaza and Arlington Mall – The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. The area is family friendly and has a variety of food and shopping options.
We grabbed some tacos and called it a night. The next morning we arose to go visit Great Falls Park. The Falls were memorizing and we were able to take a little hike around the vicinity, a sweet outdoor adventure. I highly recommend making some time during your trip for a nature walk and fresh air, best way to relax! We also took a short Uber ride to Arlington Cemetery.
Washington DC
The next day we took the subway towards Washington DC where we walked around the area and took advantage of the various museums – from the Space Museum to the Museum of Natural History, we went all over. We were also able to visit the various monuments, including the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial (it was Veterans Day weekend, so they had a few special events throughout the city) just to name a few.
We bought passes for the Hop on Hop off Big Bus Tours that I love so much to really grasp the history and beauty of it all. After a mini photo shoot at the Capital Building, we checked out the White House. To end the day, we had a scrumptious dinner at Elephant & Castle. Take full advantage of the Smithsonian Museums in DC – free admission and they provide such fascinating information; an adventure for the whole family.
Old Town Alexandria
On our last day, we headed to Old Town Alexandria, a place I love so much. It’s the cutest little waterfront town filled with boutiques, restaurants, and historic museums. We walked around taking in the breezy fall weather. We then bought some cupcakes and took a tour of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, which had awe inspiring views of the whole town. After our mini Alexandria tour, we took our Uber back to the airport for our flight back to Miami.
