After our dream wedding this November (11.11 to be exact!) my husband and I wanted to wait for our official honeymoon and plan out a long getaway abroad instead. We decided we should take a little weekend trip in the meantime to de-stress and explore a city we haven’t visited before. We decided on Charleston, South Carolina, so we could explore this old city and enjoy some southern hospitality.
First Evening in Charleston
Our flight was less than two hours long (with JetBlue from Ft Lauderdale; so much leg room!). We checked into the Saint Hotel, which was in the middle of Charleston’s Historic District. We were close to many popular attractions and restaurants. After checking in, we freshened up and visited The Rooftop at the Vendue Hotel. Since it was a Thursday, they had plenty of available chairs, and the service was quick! We enjoyed some good food and drinks, while taking in the view of the city and coast.
That evening, we checked out Charleston City Market for some local art, and crafts and then visited the Hotel Bennett. The Bennett was hosting their annual Christmas Tree light up ceremony, where they offered free snacks for thee kids and drinks for the adults. We headed up to their rooftop restaurant to take in the views as well, but quickly called it a night since it was a chilly one.
Rainbow Row
The next day, we explored the city and walked over to Waterfront Park to check out the Pineapple Fountain and the pier. We then took a short walk from there to Church Street and then visited Rainbow Row. It’s a series of about thirteen colorful historic houses along the road. So cute! We also found an old theatre where we noticed a Christmas Carol was playing for the holiday season! We bought tickets to watch it that same night. On the way back to the hotel, we stopped by Magnolia’s for lunch. We had the catch of the day, which was delicious!
Sunset Sail
After our early lunch, we relaxed until our sunset sailing tour! We booked with Schooner Pride. The sunset sail was incredible! We were able to be sailors for the day. The crew was so funny and interactive. We even saw dolphins hanging near the dock before we boarded. After our sailing excursion, we headed to our show to watch A Christmas Carol live. After the show, we made our way to Slightly North of Broad Restaurant for a late dinner, where we enjoyed soup before calling it a night.
For our last day in Charleston, we went back to Charleston City Market to try Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit. We then had some coffee and lunch at Carmella’s Cafe and Dessert Bar. We then headed back to the airport early to catch our flight back home. What a dreamy getaway this was! Any spots I missed that I should check out next time I’m in Charleston?
