I decided to start my own blog where I could share my travel adventures and have a place to relive my travel experiences; where I could share my favorite stories and photographs. I thought about the type of content I wanted to include, what I wanted to share and how I wanted it to look, but with so many different blogging platforms out there, I didn’t know where to begin. Here I’ll be sharing my experience with both Wix and WordPress to help you on your own blogging journey! This post contains affiliate links.
Wix
I had worked with Wix and Weebly in the past for both work and educational purposes, as well as for personal reasons and they were both useful tools for website building. Both Wix and Weebly give you the ease of use by allowing it’s users to pick a layout and customize it after, based on their needs and style. Wix is widely promoted and since I’ve used it in the past I decided to try it out again but for my blogging purposes this time around.
Wix allows you to build your website for free! But they also have various Premium Plans users can choose from to avoid having the Wix branding that’s associated with the free offer. The premiums allow you to connect your custom domain name. You can also buy specific Wix based apps and add-ons to use toward your Wix Website. Wix was easy to use, you don’t need to be a coder to understand how to use it. Just a few steps and you can have your website up and running.
WordPress
For WordPress, you’ll have to sign up for web hosting and purchase your domain name to begin building your website. Most hosting sites are well priced, so it’s good if you’re on a budget! But you may have to pay for other add-ons that you would like to include. WordPress is more flexible in regards to how you set up your website and the customization of it all. There are different free plugins that you can install and various more premium options available too. You also have full control of your data! I began using WordPress and since I have no coding experience, I was able to purchase and add a customized template for my blog. After exploring everything WordPress has to offer, you get accustomed to navigating the platform.
I began using BlueHost for my hosting needs. They’re affordable and it’s easy to start! As a Bluehost Affiliate, I’ve been using BlueHost since the beginning of my WordPress experience. I would highly recommend!
Here’s the final product! The ease of being able to enhance my blog is key for me. I’m happy I began blogging for fun to share my thoughts and experiences. Feel free to share your own blog and your thoughts regarding different platforms.
